Happy May to you all! I can’t believe that April is over. It has been such a busy month! I went to Houston and was so fortunate to stay with Carol Ahles and have a lovely visit. She and her husband are always so gracious! After our visit, I taught for the Midnight Oil Smockers and had a wonderful time. The members are so enthusiastic and share their love of smocking and heirloom sewing with everyone they meet.
The next week was the Stitchin’ in the Foothills Retreat, I was fortunate to see many of you there, as well as seeing Trisha Smith and Judith Adams. The classes were wonderful and we were treated to a special luncheon lecture by Bella Mae, who recreated the Cinderella dress (you can see her videos on youtube ). It was interesting and the floaty fabric was amazing! A good time was had by all!
Now that May is here, open registration has begun for Transitions and Traditions, the school that Cindy Foose and I teach in August. If you have any questions, please contact me at vaune@vaune.com . I am working on the jacket as we speak! I will post pictures when I get it finished.
The Bower’s Museum (in Santa Ana, CA) has recently hosted the Guo Pei exhibit, “The Art of Couture”. Internationally known, Guo Pei crafts the most beautiful garments. Many are covered with beadwork, padded sating stitch, and more. I went with my SIL, Debra, and we were both in awe of the garments that we saw. I took TONS of pictures, and will be attaching the pix of outfits in my newsletters.
The first dress is a short dress with a pleated skirt and a big bow at the neckline.
Most of the garments listed have some type of satin stitch and bead work. I will share a little bit more in the next post, but for this little taste, you can see how the back is covered with the embroidery pattern.
See you soon, and
