Hello Everyone, and Happy 2019!
January has gotten off to a busy start…. Sewing at the Beach in SC and then a textile show in NYC! I am hoping to post a bit more ( one of my 2019 New Year’s Resolutions!), so we shall see. I is shaping up to be a busy spring – we will be grandparents come May, and we know it is a boy, so I will be thinking in blue for a while. I will be posting about sewing for boys as time goes on. I have found some cute prints that are making their way into my stash,
I was at the Textile Show in downtown Los Angeles on Friday. I saw (and felt!) some wonderful fabrics, some of which will be coming my way soon. I also got a peek at the colors that are predicted for Spring 2019. These colors are predicted by Pantone (which I will talk about in a different post ♥ ).
Colors can portray feelings and moods, and Pantone said that this season of colors reflects a yearning for playful expressionism and creativity with vibrant hues that transcend restrictive seasonal definitions and encourage creative, unexpected combinations.

I love fabric and I love color! I love feeling fabric and seeing the creative drape of a garment. To me, color and creativity put a smile on my face. I was ordering stamps the other day, and Surprise! there was a sheet of stamps that were right up my alley. Oscar de la Renta, and some of his fabrics and garments!
Wouldn’t it be lovely to receive a letter with one of these stamps adorning the corner?!

Cindy Foose and I have found a new home for our 2018 retreat, “Traditions and Transitions”, which will be August 24-26, 2018. We will also have a Come Early Class on Thursday and a Stay and Sew Day on Monday.
As summer wanes, transitions into cooler weather, fall activities, and holiday preparations receive a hearty welcome. The colors and textures of a new season’s fabrics whet our interest and nudge us to sew for the children in our lives. Vaune and Cindy invite you to join them at Mount St. Joseph Retreat Center, in Maple Mount, Kentucky, for three days of superb instruction centered around two adorable outfits guaranteed to ease a young girl’s wardrobe into fall with traditional comfort and style.
I just finished watching the film “Men of the Cloth”, which is about 3 Master Tailors and the dying art of tailoring (and makes very clear that tailoring is VERY different from alterations!). It is a wonderful film and shows the incredible amount of work and talent it takes to make a custom suit (bespoke is the word that is often used today).
Running time is about an hour an a half – great to watch if you are stitching. It is available on Amazon Prime!

For those of you who have sewn with me before, you know my favorite feet are:
#31, 5 groove pintuck foot (making and attaching piping)
#37, 1/4 inch foot (French seams, general sewing)
#10, Edge or Stitch in the Ditch foot (French seams, heirloom sewing, top stitching)
#23, Clear Applique’ Foot (has a groove and short toe – attaching piping around a curve).

Pantone has just announced their 2018 Color Palettes. These are the colors that they ‘predict’ that will be used throughout the clothing and garment industry. The top palette in the picture is dedicated to home dec. The palette names for 2018 are:
Vedure Playful Discretion TECH-nique
Far-fetched Resourceful Intricacy Intensity
The 2018 Color of the Year will not be announced until later in the year, usually about November or December. LAST year’s coor (2017) was Greenery
