Welcome to my sewing space! I am all about details, and love to incorporate dainty details and fine sewing techniques into my garments. Teaching is my passion. As I travel around the country or teach virtually, I love to show how to master a technique in a simple and straight forward manner. Even more importantly, I want to share WHY you complete a technique a certain way. There is physics in sewing, and if you understand and work with the physics of the fabric, the thread, and the stitch, it will help you to become a better sewist.
Petite Piping is one of my favorite details to add to a garment. It does not matter if it is for an adult or a child, adding piping is a subtle detail that can really bring your garment to the next level. It is one of those details that doesn’t scream out at you, but if it is not there, you notice something that is missing right away. My Petite Piping Cord is smaller that what is used in most packaged piping (Wrights), which is paramount in making it a subtle detail. Subscribe to my Blog and receive a free Piping download. Petite Piping as easy as 1-2-3!
Embroidery is another details that I love to add to all types of garments. It does not have to be overpowering – a simple running stitch around a collar or placket can really set off the design on your project. Smocking, which is embroidery on pleats, can also be added to give your outfit a bit of texture and design. Fabric, trims, dainty details, color, proportion, and techniques are all elements that mix together to make your garment a classic.
We have just moved from California to KY, and we are in the process of building a house that will include a nice sewing studio. Many of my shop items have (mistakenly) been put in storage, but I still have my DOVO scissors, Floche, Coton a Broder #25, and Cosmo floss with me, as well as my Liberty of London lawns, my 1/16″ ginghams, and various fabrics. You can check my shopping page here. Stay tuned, as I keep you up to date on how it is coming along and when it will be ready for classes and filming. I hope to share my love of fine sewing with you, and I hope you join me on your sewing journey.
Happy Stitching,
Vaune
