New Petite Piping Cording and Why are collars like that?

First, let me introduce you to my new product!  I have started to have this manufactured myself (well, not literally) and am now able to bring this to you at a great price!  Each wound ball contains approximately 110 yards of Petite Piping Cord and is only $5.00!  You can order it HERE

I had someone call with a collar question the other day, so I thought I would share……  she wanted to know why the collar neckline did not match the blouse neckline.  She was sure that she had cut out everything accurately!  And she had!  Most collars do not match the neckline exactly – the neckline is acutally larger than the collar (see in picture below).

You can see that the neckline is larger than the collar neck.  There is  are reason for this!  When the collar lays against the blouse, you want it to have a ‘roll’ so that it stands up a bit, and does not lay flat as a board.  The roll can be more or less, depending on the design of the collar, but most of the peter pan collars that we work with have a bit of a roll.  In order to create the roll, the blouse or shirt neckline is larger than the collar neck.  The blouse neckline is eased into the collar (there is usually a mark on the collar indicating where it should meet the shoulder seam).

You can see in my finished sample that my collar now ‘matches’ the neckline.  I have it here on my ham, after I have steamed and clappered the seams, and it is drying.  Once my blouse is finished, the collar will have a small roll, which will be perfect for my Peter Pan collar!

School has just started here and I have already been called in to sub!  I am working on kits for convention – if you are in one of my classes, I will be contacting your for kit information (color, size, etc.), if I have not already.  It will be here before you know it!  See you all soon, and

Happy Stitching!
